The Hawa Mahal served as an extension of the area for the harem. Its function was to allow women to observe the daily life of the city streets without being seen from them.

The palace, built in red and pink sandstone, has five floors. The wind blew through many small windows which give the building its unique personality, allowing the enclosure to keep cool even in summer. Due to this feature, was named Hawa Mahal, which, as we know, means Palace of the Winds.

The exterior of the palace, with its small windows and their last two narrower than other floors, remember the tail of a peacock.
